Westworld Episode 7 Trailer

Westworld Episode 7 is titled “Trompe L’Oeil,” which is a french phrase meaning “deceive the eye.” It is usually an art technique that uses “realistic imagery to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects exist in three dimensions,” for example, forced perspective is a comparable illusion in architecture.

The official plot description follows:

Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and William (Jimmi Simpson) journey into treacherous terrain; Maeve (Thandie Newton) delivers an ultimatum; Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) considers his next move.

The episode is directed by Stephen Williams, who has been working in television for 23 years, having worked on Dark Angel, The Returned, The Walking Dead, Bloodline, How To Get Away With Murder, and Ray Donovan. He has a long history with Bad Robot and Jonah Nolan, having directed 26 episodes of Lost and 4 episodes of Person of Interest, as well as producing and directing the short-lived series Undercovers. The episode was written by Charles Yu, a story editor on the series who also is credited with other Westworld episodes “Chestnut” and “The Stray.”

First up, we see the behind the scenes facility hidden inside the Mesa. We saw last week a scene that took place at the Mesa Gold, the detox resort that Westworld visitors must go to after they leave the park. The Mesa Gold bar is located on the top of this facility, offering fantastic views of this DELOS destination. If Elsie is ever found alive, perhaps the information she uncovered can get her Mesa bar access.

Sidse Babett Knudsen as park head of operations Theresa Cullen watching life literally be 3D printed.

Anthony Hopkins’ Doctor Ford watches on as…

The park management demonstrates just how violent these hosts can be.

Theresa Cullen says that she has “found something quite disturbing.” Have they proved that the hosts are malfunctioning and there is potential for park visitors to be hurt? Tessa Thompson’s DELOS executive Charlotte Hale being present doesn’t bode well.

Thandie Newton’s character Maeve Millay has awoken, both metaphorically and physically.

She now has considerable control over Westworld techs Sylvester and Felix.

And next week it seems like Maeve will be pushing her control over this duo even further.

But where is she making them take her this week? Perhaps will get a tour of more of Westworld’s behind the scenes operations.

Will the Westworld operations employees discover that Maeve has been reprogramed?

If the team in hazmat suits are coming for Maeve, it seems like she’s ready to take them down.

Could this be the first real confrontation we see between Westworld staff and a host inside the park?

This past week’s episode didn’t touch on the Dolores/William storyline, but it seems like next week will return to that relationship. We see her alone looking out onto the expansive landscape of the park, before cutting to…

Dolores with… someone. But who is that? Is it William? In previous weeks we have seen the show intercut scenes with Dolores by herself with scenes with her with William and Logan. Is this more of that?

Dolores with William on what appears to be a train car.

The natives of Westworld are coming, but what are they after?

Possibly Dolores, but why?

Doctor Ford says “The hosts are the ones who are free, yeah, and under my control.” Another reference to the episode’s title.

It looks like we may be on a journey, via train, the far reaches of Westworld.

And a few more images from the episode. Maeve walking with confidence in Sweetwater. Where is she headed?

El Lazo defends the train with a gun.

Against a gatling gun?

The Westworld natives are rushing towards us on horses.

And Dolores takes aim back at them.

No mention or flash of Elsie, which makes me wonder if we’ll find out what happened to her in next week’s episode.
